Cardiovascular Ultrasound & Echocardiography

Echocardiography is a non-invasive test that uses sound waves to obtain images of the heart.  Color flow and spectral Doppler imaging allow us to see a simulation of the blood flow through the heart and across the valves.  With this technology we are able to measure the size of the heart structures, thickness of the muscle and visualize the function of the muscle and the valves. The Roanoke Heart Institute is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories. Accreditation status signifies that our facility has been reviewed by an independent agency that recognizes our laboratory’s commitment to quality testing for the diagnosis of heart disease.

We have a new Philips EPIQ ultrasound machine that provides the highest quality digital imaging of the heart. Each picture tells a thousand words!

We have a full Exercise and Pharmacological (Dobutamine) Stress Echo testing program. Extracranial Cardiovascular Duplex Imaging (“Carotid Doppler”) Exams are also performed routinely at the RHI.
